13 Pulsions
Poetry and eclecticism, these are two words that we remember from Bobbi when we talk about 13 Pulsions. An artist with multiple origins, both geographically and in terms of artistic practices, 13 Pulsions, aka Manuel Francisco Murillo, places the human being at the center of his paintings, murals and rap lyrics. The softness of the soul and its complexity are closely linked in Manu’s illustrations. It is in a cosmopolitan Brussels that he draws his inspiration and shares his dreamlike and urban universe. He likes to work with all media, from textile to concrete, including canvas and paper. His characteristic line and his frank colors are more and more requested for communication campaigns, for music album covers… and for nice Bobbi beer labels!
After having scoured school benches, public toilets and road signs, François Tusseki has upgraded his stickers and signatures by drawing from the practice of teaching. It’s his “old-school” touch that Bobbi likes. François has his own way of marrying calligraphy and typography to the urban world. Tusseki has always been interested in the “street” medium. Today, he works on the content and the form. Puns, slogans, old-fashioned expressions, funny words and other “punch-lines” pass under his brush to resurface in their most beautiful form. Everything goes through it: shop windows, event signage, textiles, blackboards or restaurant menus, signage of all kinds, etc. François’ style is obviously inspired by the purest tradition of old-fashioned teachers, but also by his travels in Asia, his passion for American sports, comic books, Brussels and its absurd side, and then simply beautiful things, lost and forgotten objects with a soul, objects in their own juice. …. of hops!
Pierre Coubeau aka FSTN is an illustrator by training, he also studied graphic communication. He shares his know-how with several festivals and events in Brussels, and he already has a bunch of solo and collective exhibitions that are never the same. His art evolves at the rhythm of his inspirations. The ballpoint pen has no secret for him, he has used some of them to observe the aberrations of the system, to criticize the consumer society or to denounce the human exploitation. Today, FSTN varies techniques, from charcoal to audiovisual, he juggles with formats and media, switching to a beer label, he likes to make the sound and image interact the collective ALEA (s), and each time with the same intensity, the same authenticity and that … we say yes at Bobbi.
Oak Oak (pronounced wak wak) is a self-taught artist from Saint-Etienne in France. His inspiration comes from the street and its irregularities, its flaws that he likes to correct or highlight in a playful way. Oak Oak is a feel-good artist, and that’s what we like about Bobbi. Each of his interventions brings a smile to your face. The references are numerous, sometimes geeky, sometimes historical, the artist draws his images from popular culture to serve them in a diverted way under a blow of bomb, brush or stencil. Despite the fact that he has numerous exhibitions and international collaborations to his credit, as well as several book editions, Oak Oak continues to roam the sidewalks in search of the detail that will make his next work stand out.
Jaune is a stencil artist and urban interventionist, as he likes to describe himself. Famous for his funny little workers, the artist Jaune honored us by creating a label for Chez Bobbi. Hashtag pride. In the manner of a model maker, he makes these little characters interact with the city. Always tinged with humor, his interventions are no less meaningful. Jonathan Pauwels (real name) wants to highlight the paradox between the visible and the invisible. Starting from the observation that public cleanliness workers are often invisible despite their colored uniforms and fluorescent vests, Jaune humbly tries to raise awareness about the workers in the shadows. In the end, the artist talks about respect and dignity, but with a smile and a Bobbi beer it’s good too!
Artist-painter-graffitist from Brussels, Eyes-B starts his artistic career in drawing but quickly turns to painting. He finds his inspiration in digital arts, design and the macro-use of organic elements. Adept of the “freestyle”; improvisation and spontaneity guide his work. These are values that are dear to us and that we share at Bobbi. In constant evolution, Eyes-B has extended his artistic talent to abstract painting without abandoning classic graffiti. The legibility of the letter has been replaced by a moving form, images that convey sound. Music is the main engine of his work. Rhythm, silence, repetition, pause, dynamism… all aspects of the songs he listens to are highlighted in his paintings. The many layers of each sound lead him to create different textures and each rhythm, a smooth or irregular movement, fast or slow, until the compositional game can reach the perfect balance.
Amandine Lesay grew up in Paris in the midst of a booming graffiti scene. She then moved to Brussels where she studied painting and engraving at the National School of La Cambre for five years. True to herself, Amandine uses the influences she has picked up along the way to create raw or polished compositions, depending on her mood. Militant for the valorization of female artists, Amandine Lesay likes to wear the hat of a team leader to realize large-scale projects. The collective, living in a group is her hobby, and pushing the limits of the traditional is her goal. At Bobbi we tried to make a recipe in the image of this talented artist: Take a big dose of mystery, mix it with a delicate sensitivity, add a lot of technique and you have a work of Amandine Lesay.
Patrick Croes alias Jellyfish is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brussels. Painter, illustrator, motion designer, he multiplies projects with big names like Galler, Jean-Paul Lespagnard but also the singer Yelle. Particularly active on the medium “concrete”, Patrick accumulates the number of murals to his credit. With a colorful universe and multicultural motifs, Patrick adapts to each project by subordinating the technique to the service of the latter, hence his ability to adapt to multiple disciplines. Mixing ethnic influences with a pop, graphic, sometimes childish and humorous universe, this is the challenge taken up by this artist. At Bobbi, we loved the performance realized “upside down” in the tunnel of the street Terre-Neuve, realized for the Street Art Course of the City of Brussels. It is a 500m² ceiling in the manner of a Sistine chapel, to discover it you just have to walk with your nose in the air here.
“A human adventure, an absolute creative freedom, an insatiable thirst to create and to take pleasure in each of our creations. Pablo Boulanger (Graphic Designer and illustrator/calligrapher) and Mathieu Bonte (a.k.a Mata7ik – founder of Chalk Custom Board Project) created Klahc.Lab in 2020, with the one and only ambition: to set up new projects without imposing or being imposed limits.” At Bobbi, we love people who impose themselves to be free, and we are delighted to welcome the first creations of this new duo that already look surprising.
Emmanuel Angeli, aka ManWho, is a newcomer to curating exhibitions.
This lover of Brussels, urban art and theater, coming from the graffiti scene, graduated from the ihecs in communication and advertising. He has a wide experience in the public cultural sector. The urban arts sector saw him initiate the Street Art Trail for the City of Brussels (he accompanied the production of a hundred murals), before launching himself independently in the management of socio-cultural and artistic projects.
Alternately art director, artist agent and now curator for Bobbi Brewery, ManWho likes to set up heterogeneous projects that make art accessible to the greatest number of people and to make art lovers feel comfortable. His credo: art is yours.
